The Best Rock Artists You Never Hear of

The musician known as Rodriguez, and the band Robin Trower are two of the best blues players to ever play. Not only does the music of both artists have great instrumentals, but some of the most poetic lyrics. Though both of these artists are great they are still

heavily underrated.

The words of Rodrigues are at once intrusive and sensitive, sorrowful yet elating, but most of all beautiful. His folky guitar playing backs his clever lyrics, and will usually have an electric bass, violin, or even trumpets to accompany. Both of his only albums were produced in the 70s, but are nonetheless timeless.

Even though among the rock community he is still majorly underrated, there was a documentary made about his life as a musician titled, Searching for Sugarman, that won an oscar in 2011. Not only is his lyrics so moving, but his story is perhaps even more inspiring.

Robin Trower on the other hand has more soul than any other rock band. The lead guitarist Robin Trower plays the blues in psychedelic melodies while the haunting voice of lead singer James Dewar belts out the band's deep and powerful lyrics. Together, this duo produced seven amazing albums from 1973-1980.

Here are some of my favorite songs by each artist along with some lyrics.

Rodriguez

Crucify Your Mind

Was it a huntsman or a player

That made you pay the cost

That now assumes relaxed positions

And prostitutes your loss?

Were you tortured by your own thirst

In those pleasures that you seek

That made you Tom the curious

That makes you James the weak?

I Wonder

Sugar Man

Inner City Blues

Met a girl from Dearborn, early six o'clock this morn
A cold fact
Asked about her bag, suburbia's such a drag
Won't go back
'Cause Papa don't allow no new ideas here
And now he sees the news, but the picture's not too clear

Mama, Papa, stop
Treasure what you got
Soon you may be caught
Without it
The curfew's set for eight
Will it ever all be straight
I doubt it

I Think of You

To Whom it May Concern

Street Boy

Robin Trower

I'm out to Get You

I'm out to get you,
Create a disturbance in your mind
I've been sent to select you,
From another place in time
It's gonna be something new,
And you better not hesitate
For the first time in your life,
You can celebrate

Too Rolling Stoned

Lost in Love

It's for You

When you are down
And the whole world seems to wear a frown
Open up your eyes
And pretty soon you'll realize it's for you and I
And the birds in the trees
Sing a song to the breeze
And the song says my love
It's for you
Baby it's for you

Somebody Calling

For Earth Below

Daydream
